SET Woolwich, London, UK 2025
he stage programme brings together nine artists—Abby Coombs, Fan Bangyu, Jorge Chobin, Yao Liangqi, Mia Kosovic, Roman Shepherd-Dawson, Sarah Duffy, Sarah Stenberg and Joe Smith—who collaborate with six invited artists: Engin Eskici, Hamish Ford, Henry Glover, Paloma Moniz, Yi Xiaowan and Wang Xixi. Their contributions span installation, moving image and performance, interweaving themes such as the tension between nature and industry, urban alienation, sensory regulation and personal experience. Each artist contributes a unique voice to this polyphonic ensemble.
The exhibition brings together several recent works by nine key artists: four live performances, a three-week-long ongoing performance, three video works and seven static installations. Set against the backdrop of a dark space choreographed with sound and light, the exhibition invites visitors to follow a loosely guided sequence through these diverse media. The artist himself serves as the curator of this project and is also the editor and producer of the film.
The work reimagines the spatial performance *Stage*—held on 9 May 2025 at SET Woolwich in London—through the medium of video and non-linear narration. Curated by the artist-led collective The Afterpiece, the exhibition challenges traditional static art display formats by presenting contemporary art through performance and immersive experiences. With its unique spatial design, which integrates lighting, sound and interactive elements, the exhibition reimagines the relationship between artworks and the audience, offering a new format for contemporary exhibitions. The lighting on-site is controlled by the curators, and visitors are permitted to view specific media within a set timeframe; all media are presented to the audience in a performative manner, no longer reduced to mere backdrop elements in a salon-style setting.
